POETRY

and various other musings by John Christian

going blind

The watchers are wearing damaged smiles
Create their surface reviewing all the while
Look among the faces of the show we are in now
Stage is under you – why not take a bow
Lying low, sleeping fast – wake up to see the light
Go to calling if it seems to work out right
Tell your family; tell your friends
You’ve stabbed her in the back
In tears you break down fading fast
See the sun giving us our lives
Occasionally a friend – unknowingly unkind
Remove your Polaroids and stare at it awhile
Soon you will find you are going blind

Farmer raised father of the high
Set aside to watch it breed its social lies
Because of this the blindness narrows – pins it to one mind
And raise the question
When is then our time?

Has it just begun – did you have your fun
Why then what’s your wait – you do not hesitate
Warm tears flow from your eyes
Warm tears from your fingers
Blindness comes to man – comes to power
What has made you so?
Sorry tune is sung – break the bell that’s rung
‘Round about the way we live our lives
What then blinds our eyes?
What then draws the blind?
What then moves the mind?
What then keeps the time?
Blindness comes to man – comes to power
What has made you so?

hindsight

Hindsight; it don’t bite
Take another taste and you will be in delight
Go down and build a wall of stone
It shouldn’t really matter that you are all alone
See it there crawling everywhere
You can climb a mountain only if you care
C’mon hold up that wine
Don’t leave it ‘till tomorrow
You don’t have the time

Hindsight; it won’t cry
No matter what you think, no matter how you try
It lines up with history in context for all to see
If you believe all that you are told
Don’t be surprised when you grow old
There are no boundaries here
Yet people see them everywhere

Hindsight; it don’t lie
Compare it to the truth and you will see it fly
One dose of its energy will no doubt bring your mind to see
These days there are many who deceive
Never lose sight of what you believe
Hindsight is there to guide
So trust not your changing pride

Right there in the heart of all
Everybody sees you cry and call
Future ahead so tall
Hindsight prevents the fall

happy man

Happy Man ride free
And don’t tune your voice to the sound our guitars
Happy Man ride free
And keep within the movements of your heart
Forever has been known to tear it apart
The latest call
Like burning through the darkness of the night
The latest fall
Colliding with a multitude of rights
Both sides have been aligned by way of sight

Happy Man ride free
Consider what the stars and stripes have done
Happy Man ride free
Accumulated power with the gun
And smother then with prided what you have done

Happy Man ride free
And tell us of a different way of life
Happy Man ride free
But do not discard your feelings with a knife
The attitude that puts you always right

hiding yourself

Hiding yourself under the cloth
Hiding yourself beneath the mask
Hiding yourself behind the wall
Hiding yourself
Hiding yourself
Beneath yourself
Beneath yourself
Hiding yourself
Hiding yourself
The mirror cracked
Hiding yourself
Hiding yourself
Reveal yourself
Reveal yourself
Expose yourself
Expose yourself
Hiding yourself beneath yourself
Reveal yourself expose yourself
Hiding yourself
Hiding yourself
Naked you come
Naked you go

i knew jack the ripper

Tenacious fog crept slowly to blanket
The remains of what he had done
Unhurriedly he wiped his hands
From the blood of his victim
The murder was over before the scream
The terror still in her eyes
He turned and walked back to the round about
With a proper English style
I knew Jack The Ripper

The streets became his playground
The moorlands of mortal sin
Staring bedeviled into the darkness
Visitation settled in
Stale odour of opium on his breath
Satan powered his reflective thought
Obsession had control of his very soul
As he would turn cold steel to hot
I knew Jack The Ripper

i know I'm not the only one

And you can change the world into anything you want
…and you don’t
Just don’t lose your mind when you’re staring really hard
…oh so hard
I can’t be breathing in all this foreign air
Or I’ll end up as a pawn
Connected to the imaginings of men
I know I’m not the only one
All at once I let the mirror slip away
…without fear
All at once I knew it was the longest day
…of the year
It’ll take a long time for me to talk to you
For that which I hold tight is gone
This shattered glass: I am a splintered man
I know I’m not the only one
What face compels you to soar I do not know the words
…but you do
What lights your way to the still and wonder of your smile
…is it real
For if the sky is clear and the flowers are in bloom
The heat they get is from the sun
But the first sign of frost will curl and dry the leaves
I know I’m not the only one
And you can change your life into anything you want
…and you won’t
Just don’t lose the time when you’re staring really hard
…oh so hard
You can’t be breathing in all this foreign air
Or you’ll end up as a pawn
Connected to the imaginings of men
I know I’m not the only one

i love the madness

I love the madness
Its twisting its turning
Its odds all against me
Though we must be safe in our human stew
Still I choose to be left alone with you

When the sky meets the river
The ocean is not too far
You play your hand
Strike in your land
Tell me who is sitting on the star
If you have answered me the teacher was
You are wrong only in line
The teacher he is still sitting there
Still hoping he has time
Each of us are changing in ways too little known
With stammer indecision and future over-blown
We walk inside the mainline
And whisper to the trees …hello

In the hatchery

In the corner of the classroom
In the big world join the butchery
In the hollow stir up the fire
Remember your life in the hatchery
In your exile under the clouds you
Reject the morals of the family
And in your mind you turn back the clock and
Enjoy the good life in the hatchery
In the order of disorder
They regulate entangled uniformity
And in the backwoods way of thinking
Move ever closer to the hatchery

IF

If I were a man
Could I take your hand?
Would you hold me ‘till the morning bright?
If I were a man

If I were a child
With no reason to be mild
Would you love me even though I drowned?
If I were a child

If I were a tree
Could I make you see?
Crowning my wisdom across this ancient land
If I were a tree

If I were the ground
Would I then be found?
I could take you to another time
If I were the ground

If I were a lake
It would be no mistake
I could caress you naked and alive
If I were a lake

If I were the air
Would you even care?
Could you breathe me deep into your soul?
If I were the air

If I were the sun
Would you know I have won?
Could I protect you from my burning stare?
If I were the sun

If I were a god
Would you claim I am flawed?
Could you believe me even in my doubt?
If I were a god

in the engine room

Do you like yourself? Do you know who you are?
Do you live in the light? Do you live in the dark?
Do you hope for life? Do you see it end?
Do you face the facts? Do you still pretend?

Do you assert yourself? Do you follow behind?
Do you enjoy life? Do you not have time?
Do you live in the streets? Do you live in a home?
Do you have enough friends? Do you feel alone?

They’ve locked you in the engine room

Do you know yourself? Do you wonder how?
Do you live in the past? Do you live in the now?
Do you sleep on a bed? Do you sleep on the floor?
Do you have enough? Do you still want more?

Do you believe yourself? Do you seek for the truth?
Do you long to be old? Do you long for your youth?
Do you dance through life? Do you carry a load?
Do you conceal your wealth? Do you have none to hold?

They’ve locked you in the engine room

is anybody listening?

Writing these words I wonder what is the point of even trying
Is anybody listening?
The cost was so much more but I can see it now there was
Nobody listening
Trading love for anger, surrounded by only strangers
I wanted to have someone listening
When I recall the faces I cannot remember places I was
Because I wasn’t listening

In the beginning there was only tomorrows…my my
And in the end there may be only sorrows…my my

Come and unite with me
We can take on the world and have
Everybody listening
Though you think you know the story it is only past glory when
You were listening
Chameleon sunrise dawning and in life
You are clawing at someone
So they would be listening
Forgetting that you also hear
Not seeing that it is nothing more than mere pridefulness
That you are not listening

In the beginning there was only tomorrows…my my
And in the end there may be only sorrows…my my

Sitting cross-legged on the floor with no reason to think more
If nobody is listening
At the dawn of the day my strength is there to only cause
Other people listening
When you can only take so much the writing is on the backs
Of everybody listening
So from here the journey starts and continues on its path
To get myself listening

jonah's contact

This contact of division reminds me of relations
Who laugh and spoil you rotten because they feel they have to
Our Jonah made a contact uncertain up the ladder
Be careful don’t you stumble the higher that you travel
Here stands your only father – the founder of the nation
Reserves unfailing power to terminate the pressure
To work and earn our paper – Our Jonah has made a contact
This reminds me of Gulliver tied down by those effeminate
The product of the system induces hibernation
Our Jonah made a contact; the wailing of the banshee
Is there to serve you warning
Of approaching death in the family
No violence can entomb you – uninvolved now lest I slumber
This order has a number – out of our heads call the doctor
We will free them from the animal
Our Jonah makes a contact

The power of division has been known to be the problem
Of aggression of a nation; return to who you are
Our Jonah made a contact
Now you should file your comeback
We are supporting our obsession
We are designing motivation
All life and death surround you – I would not ever blame you
This order has a number and in our heart we have the doctor
Let it burn out of control
Our Jonah makes a contact

just one more day

The evening tells us never – the morning says she may
Through this all a song stands clear of warning of a day
The hostile children flourish abandoning the way
And parents are invited to have just one more day
Now the child has turned to parent and all its children slaves
Reaching back in memory of when they were the same
Still the hope is for the future so please increase my pay
Because of your misguiding we’ve just one more day
Lately I have noticed that what they say is true
The past is unchangeable while the rest is up to you
You would play around forever if I would not say
The tension is building and thoughts compile
For I have just one more day

One more day running out of time
I cannot say when you will be mine
I will kill for you a prophet and throw my soul away
I have heard the devil cry my name ‘John’
You’ve just one more day

like other children

Money buys you things
Love brings joy
Joy brings love
Money buys you things
Peace brings harmony
Harmony brings peace
Money buys you things
Truth brings freedom
Freedom brings truth
Money buys you things
Love and joy
Joy and love
Money buys you things
Peace and harmony
Harmony and peace
Money buys you things
Truth and freedom
Freedom and truth
Money buys you things
Love joy peace harmony truth freedom
Money only buys you things

land of joy

One word settles the flame
One sword levels the earth
One look restores the sight
Reject the lie; embrace the fear

Fine sport this chase of brute creation
Prepare your body for cremation
And don't be caught up in your own frustration
Sallow is the face of all mutation
You consider your life for their employ
Leaving behind a broken toy
Say hello to the girl and boy
And welcome them to the land of joy
Land of joy where to now
Land of joy where to now

Take a breath now for your one big day
Do not consider what the clerics say
They never really do much anyway
Except sit and demand that you must pray
But I tell you that you should deploy
With all your power to annoy
The ones who see you as their whipping boy
And enter into the land of joy
Land of joy where to now
Land of joy where to now

ladder of my own

What to do when you are broke and blue
The sunshine is not breaking through
And all the wealth that you thought you made
Will not help to make you whole
What to say when you look away
From a place where you will not stay
The water is cold and you ain’t as bold
So you shiver quake and cry

I need a ladder of my own
Not one that has been used before
And with that ladder of my own
I will climb the hill and I will be gone

Where to go when I dig my hole
To crawl into the dreams I hold
Like a gopher I am searching for
Something that I can chew

Where to hide no one can trace
I will dig myself out of this place
That is the time I realize
That I am getting old

The money is gone and the rent is due
The water is cold but I am not through
The sun will come and shine on me
And I will live again

The day is now; no alibi
It should come as no surprise
I have broken through the clouds and I find
That it is a bright new sunny day

I’ve got a ladder of my own
Not one that has been used before
And with this ladder of my own
I will climb the hill and I will be gone
You will need a ladder of your own
Not one that has been used before
And with that ladder of your own
You will climb the hill and you will be gone

light sweet magic feather touch

If both my tired eyes could see
Then there would be time to wake
And for those who hear my words
Would it cause their hearts to quake?
If you close your eyes like me
And describe all that you see
Light Sweet Magic Feather Touch
That’s what we crave so much….

I would be holding back the truth
If I said I did not see
This blackened storm is brewing now
But one day I will be free
If you close your eyes in hope
That it will not pass you by
Light Sweet Magic Feather Touch
That’s what we crave so much….

These burning eyes turn them away
They are tortured and abused
I remember all so well
Though it is clouded and confused
If you open up your eyes
You will find you are going blind
Light Sweet Magic Feather Touch
That’s what we crave so much….

living in sin

Give me a life with no rules and no changes
Give me a time with a piece on your mind
I need a lady with morals like hinges
Living in sin is the way of our time
Hey! What do you keep your pies in?
Ok, we know! Your people live in sin

Medicine man scratching at the dog’s heel
Desperately searching to find another bone
He’s had enough of lies; he’s aiming for a big deal
Call upon another to jeopardize his home
Innocent girl lying in the garden
Casually viewed by eager young men
Take another turn to let a little sun in
Mesmerize your audience before you let them burn
Stretch out the sign along all major borders
Legalize nature the eve of the loud
Keep it in mind the system might falter
Enough to get by ahead of the crowd
Hey! What do you keep your pies in?
Ok, we know! Your people live in sin

little did we know

Little did we know all that was happening
Little did we think about where the path would lead
Little did we see with our blinders on
We could not understand the way to be
Little did we feel; our bodies ached with pain
Little did we realize that what we dreamt we made
Little did we hear that inner voice that sees
Instead we walked into a maze unclear
Little did we think about anything
Little did we understand the rule of give and take
Little did we know all that was happening
Little does it matter now ‘cause little did we know

like a dying sun

I fear and hope - I burn and freeze likewise
I fly above the wind yet cannot rise
There is nothing I have that the world can take from
I am free yet locked inside this prison
The night has a thousand eyes
Yet the light of the whole world shines
Like a dying sun

I wish to perish yet I ask for health
I love another yet I hate myself
I feed in sorrow; I laugh at my pains
Without eyes I see; without tongue I claim
The mind has a thousand eyes
Yet the light of the whole world shines
Like a dying sun

I cannot be held yet I escape no wise
It lets me not live or face my demise
And my delight is the cause of my grief
I climb yet I fall while I cling to a leaf
The night has a thousand eyes
Yet the light of the whole world shines
Like a dying sun
